Hermantown at the USASA Championships

Three Hermantown students recently competed at the 2022 USASA National Snowboard Championships held at Copper Mountain in Frisco, Colo. Olivia Jones, Jace Weisgerber and Jaxson Acker represented the Lake Superior Freestyle Team based out of Spirit Mountain at the event.

Jones, a junior at Hermantown, claimed Junior Women’s National Champion honors with a first-place finish in the Girls 17-18 Slopestyle, and also placed 11th in the Girls 15-22 Rail Jam event.

Weisgerber, a seventh grader, finished seventh overall in the Boys 11-14 Rail Jam and 25th in the Boys 13-14 Slopestyle. Acker, a fourth grader, placed fifth in the Boys 7-10 Rail Jam and 14th in the Boys 9-10 Slopestyle.

Over 1,100 snowboarders from across the country competed at the USASA National Snowboard Championships.

RAIL JAM

Held in the terrain park using a few rails and boxes...riders will “jam” (ride at the same time) with other riders in their heat at the same time while being judged.

SLOPESTYLE

Participants perform tricks and jumps on a sloping course with multiple rails and jumps.
