Mirage Hockey

The Proctor/Hermantown Mirage hoisted the Girls Hockey Section 7A Championship Trophy for the third-straight year after defeating Duluth Marshall, 5-4, in front of a boisterous crowd at Northwoods Credit Union Arena  Wednesday night.

The Mirage fell down early in the contest, trailing 3-1 at 2:38 in the second period, but goals from Natalie Berg and Reese Heitzman knotted the game, 3-3, at the break. Nya Sieger's goal early in the third gave Proctor/Hermantown its first lead of the contest, before Hannah Graves extended the advantage to two goals 37 seconds later.

Duluth Marshall pulled within one goal at 15:59 to make the score 5-4, but the Mirage hung on for its third-consecutive trip to the MSHSL State Tournament.

“There were a bunch of ups and downs, but right now we are on the up and hope we can keep going and get another state championship," Sieger told Northern News Now. "It’s pretty amazing just to be back at the X just to be there with my teammates and my coaches, they’re family so it’s great."

The MSHSL Girls Hockey State Tournament is set for Feb. 22-25 at the Xcel Energy Center and TRIA Rink at Treasure Island Center.
